DESCRIPTION:
This training is designed for artists who have completed the Level 1 introductory course or who have equivalent experience and wish to deepen their throwing knowledge in a private setting. It aims to reinforce basic throwing techniques and introduce complementary techniques for confidently centering and throwing larger quantities of clay. You will learn to throw medium-sized forms such as vases and bowls.
TECHNIQUES COVERED:
- Wedging larger quantities of clay (2 to 5 lb).
- Centering larger quantities of clay (2 to 5 lb).
- Reviewing basic throwing techniques and optimal body positions when working with larger quantities of clay.
- Optimal finger positioning for containing and throwing tall forms.
- Opening and leveling a round piece's base to throw a bowl.
- Using a metal rib to shape, define, and smooth the walls of pieces.
- Throwing and trimming pieces on the wheel (making the wheel slab)
- Surface treatments on raw and leather-hard clay (imprinting, altering, carving, etc.)
- Finishing, handling, and pre-firing drying.

Your training can take place over a short, intensive period or be spread out over a longer period. This means you can book time slots close together or further apart to suit your learning pace.During your training, I will provide all the specialized tools and equipment required. During the months you are enrolled, you will also have free recycled clay and an individual storage shelf reserved for storing your personal belongings and projects in progress.
The training registration fee includes teaching fees and the use of the studio spaces, tools, and equipment required during the training.

Raw materials are available for purchase at the studio shop, where you can buy the materials of your choice according to your respective needs.
- If you wish to bisque-fire the pieces you made during your training, a shared bisque-firing service is offered at the studio. Firing fees will be charged pro rata based on the space your pieces occupy in the kiln when they are unloaded from their bisque firing.
- If you wish to glaze and glaze-fire your pieces at the studio, additional glazing training or periods of independent access to our glazing lab and a shared glaze-firing service are offered by reservation. Glaze and glaze-firing fees will be charged pro rata based on the space your pieces occupy in the kiln when they are unloaded from their glaze firing.
- If you wish to practice and optimize the integration of the techniques learned during your training, periods of access to the studio workstations are available by reservation.

Your skill development can take place over a short, intensive period or be spread out over a longer period. This means you can book sessions at intervals that suit your budget and learning pace.
I plan the custom guidance sessions in collaboration with you, according to your experience level, to meet your specific needs and enable you to bring your ideas to life, achieve your goals, and complete your respective artistic projects.

A unique opportunity awaits!
Professional ceramic artist and sculptor Michelle Lemire, owner of the Solart Art Gallery Studio and instructor for over twenty-five years, invites you to discover her creative world and take a private introductory course in clay throwing techniques.As an introduction to the art of pottery, I will share my artistic approach and introduce you to my unique artworks displayed in the art gallery. I will show you my production studio so that I can present the different stages of the ceramic piece-making process. Then, I will demonstrate kneading, centering, and throwing clay. Finally, I will invite you to get in touch with the material and put the demonstrated techniques into practice by trying to throw a clay bowl on a wheel that will be assigned to you individually. I will be available to assist and guide you throughout the creative process. If you wish to fire and keep the pieces you successfully throw during your course, we offer additional firing and glazing services, introductory glazing workshops, and a shipping service by reservation (an additional amount corresponding to the Canada Post shipping cost applicable to your respective destination will then be required if you wish to have your creations delivered directly to your home).
During your training, I provide all the specialized tools and equipment required, an apron, and free recycled clay.

CAPACITY AND TARGET AUDIENCE
This introductory workshop is open to the general public and is intended for adults, teenagers, and children aged 8 and over. As part of this small semi-private group activity, we welcome from 1 to a maximum of 4 people.
AVAILABILITY
This activity is available by reservation on Saturdays, Sundays, or Mondays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
