This course is designed for artists who wish to refine their clay throwing skills. It focuses on developing new sectional throwing techniques. It will also allow you to acquire the independence necessary to reserve access to a workstation and use the specialized equipment at Atelier Solart to undertake the creation of your future projects.

TECHNIQUES COVERED:
  • kneading a larger quantity of clay.
  • centering a larger quantity of clay.
  • throwing the bases of necked, shouldered, globular, and ovoid vases on the wheel (making the wheel throwing slab)
  • throwing the rough sections to be assembled on the wheel.
  • Using a serrated rib to join the sections to their respective leather-hard bases.
  • using a trimming tool and a wire cutter to trim the bases.
  • using a metal rib to smooth the joints and the inner and outer walls of assembled tall forms.
  • Throwing the assembled section roughs together with the bases of the pieces to define desired tall forms.
